Sunday Golf and Johnnie

So today we're playing at Roosevelt and although it was just going to be Scott and I, I was sure we were going to be paired with nice folks. Or at least I was hoping so. You always do anyway especially now that it is mostly Scott and I and a sporadic third here and there. You always wonder if you're that annoying golfer people would try to avoid. At least I hope I'm not. It was strange enough for me to wake up this morning and find Johnnie restlessly moving around in the bed. And Claire there as well as I had to take her out for her 6 AM walk-and-poop. I am for sure going to leave her at Lisa's today. I've had her full time for more than 3 weeks now. Time for a break, at least from her. I dropped the dog and Johnnie off at 7:45, left them McDonald's breakfast and headed off to Roosevelt. We got paired up with a single and then a couple and although the couple had a woman hitting from the white tees, it turned out she wasn't so bad after that first hole. Didn't realize we could be so intimidating. Anyway I belted my first shot towards the fence on the left side as per usual. Then dropped a 6-iron in the sand. Got out of it after 3 tries and then missed my short putt. Sigh. Didn't do well on 2nd either. A pop-up off the tee, an iron dribbled down the middle. Followed by 2 more dribblers until I finally got it to the green after 5 shots. And THEN missed the putt. Sigh. On the 3rd hole, I yanked it left again and then tried again but at least got through the trees and saved myself a 4. Finally on Hole 3 I got 2 decent shots put together and I was on the edge of the green already. My first shot at a par. But I missed the putt and settled for bogey. Same on Hole 5. Decent first 2 shots and I was already hovering by the green. But again I missed a par putt though longer this time and settled for a bogey. On the funnel zone Hole 6, I had a decent first shot right down the middle and then clipped the 2nd shot short. And got a double bogey. On Hole 7, I had a great shot off the tee, but again missed the par putt for another bogey. On Hole 8 I had my best tee shot. Only to whiff the 2nd and settle for another bogey. Finally on the last hole, I landed on the green and got my par. Not too bad really. A par and 4 bogeys. If not for the first 2 holes, I had a decent day. At least I got my par albeit on the very last hole. And I left feeling ok about my game...
So I called Lisa right after and asked what their plans were. To make a long story short, I stopped at 7-11, got me a Coke and Johnnie a pizza. I was supposed to come over for lunch. I stopped at Trader Joe's and got us the shaved beef with some brocollini. When I got to Lisa's house, mom son and dog where taking a warm shower outside. Hmmm. Ok then. I cooked up the beef and the brocollini and so we had a family lunch right there on Lisa's backyard deck. We had a pretty chill time actually and then Lisa actually let me take a nap in Johnnie's room. The plan was for me to hang out and keep Johnnie and the dog company so Lisa could play the piano some. Her house was in the middle of another mini-renovation but I'm not even going to get into that at all. Turned out my nap was short-lived anyway. That's because Lisa got a call from her mom that they were on their way over. Takes care of that. I packed Johnnie up because he asked if he could stay with me for the night tonight. Turned out he had it in his mind that he would be staying with me for most of the week anyway... and told Lisa he was going to see her Thursday LOL. I was good with that if Lisa was, knowing full well I don't usually see Johnnie on Sundays. But this was a different Sunday. And for sure I wanted to have a day off from Claire the dog. And so Johnnie and I hung out for the rest of the Sunday. He reverted back to his eat-every-hour self actually, which was just fine with me. I made him quesadillas for early dinner. And then made him spaghetti and marinara sauce for his 2nd dinner. Turned out I was making some for myself anyway. Worked out just right. And of course I continued my nap and he continued watching the Wild Kratts. And he drew and drew and drew, something he does more of when he's at my house. The great thing was that I didn't have to think about Claire the dog and that was a nice change. I didn't have to get up early this morning, didn't have to bring her along when we went to the grocery store to stock up on his snacks for next week, didn't have to make sure his doggie bowl was full of food. Johnnie and I, in fact, watched Looney Tunes the rest of the evening. I can't believe he's just learning about Roadrunner and Wily Coyote. Meep meep!! Before long it was time to go to bed. Different for a Sunday night for me. But a very nice change. It was a pretty good weekend and I was glad Johnnie was home. And was mostly with me all weekend. Thank you Lisa for that.
