Saturday has morphed into Johnnie time regardless of whether Lisa is working or not. The difference is that on a Saturday where Lisa isn't working like today, I get to spend time with him in the morning and bring him back after lunch. When Lisa is working, I have him pretty much for the entire day. Today I knew he would be excited to come because he knew he had a chemistry set waiting for him at my apartment which came on Thursday just as he was leaving to get picked up by his mom. And so he never got to open it. And he was excited to. Still you never know where Lisa is at on a day-to-day basis and so I called with caution at 8 AM to see when she was expecting me to come over to get Johnnie. Turns out she had been lollygagging in bed for the last hour. Which tells me she is in lazy mode. Or rest-and-relax mode. Either way, it didn't sound like she was anxious to make breakfast. So I volunteered to pick up croissants at Rockenwagner and bring breakfast over. That wasn't so bad really. Things had pretty much returned to some semblance of normalcy and there is no longer that humongo line you have to deal with like in the past few months. In fact, I was in and out of there in 5 minutes. As soon as Johnnie opened the door for me he greeted me with his list for the day. True enough he had written down his "schedule" for today for his "job sheet". I had no clue that he had learned the idea of a job sheet from me! Anyway I knew Lisa was not in the mood to do much of anything because she hadn't showered Johnnie yet. She knew I was going to do that. And so it was that we had the croissants for breakfast. With her Earl Grey, it was more than enough. And so we were off to my apartment and Johnnie was showered before it was 9:30. And so we went on to the next item on his list, which was to get some udon and ramen for Lisa. And tofu too. Wouldn't be a trip to the store if I wasn't getting something for Lisa would it? And when we got that done, Johnnie finally got to the item on his list that he had been looking forward to. He got to play with his chemistry set. I must say this one that I got for him is pretty good. I would have had a lot of fun with it myself if I had gotten it as a kid. I kept him with the beginner exercises and games for now, just so he could learn to use all the tools like pipettes and beakers and stuff. Plenty of time to play with the complex stuff later. Besides it was already noon by the time he had gotten a chance to play.
And so for lunch off we went to Panda Express. Not the Sawtelle one, not even the Westwood one. We went to the Marina del Rey one. That too was Johnnie's idea. I didn't really care which one we went to, it was a nice warm day out and considering I was returning Johnnie to Lisa after lunch, I was ok hanging out eating outside at Marina del Rey. For his part, Johnnie concluded that this was a very good lunch and I was well aware that these declarations were a very dependable gauge that Johnnie and I were having a pretty good time. It was almost 2 PM by the time I brought him back. We found Lisa taking a nap in the sand in the front yard with the dog. I'm sure she was still tired but at least she got a few hours to herself. And she got to recharge for tomorrow's sail with her brother Joah. If the day turns out like today, it's going to be nice out. If I sound jealous then I admit that I am. But then again do I really want to hang out with Lisa's fam? Karl had asked me that earlier in the context that his son Jordan and wife Alyssa are now separated too. Must be going around like covid LOL. I thought Karl was more broken up about it than probably Jordan was. He was always conservative that way though. Anyway he was disappointed that Alyssa's family didn't seem to want to stay in contact with him. And so I told him that should be expected. If I didn't have to make contact with Lisa's family at all, then I wouldn't. Heck I got a ping from a page out of the past this last week... Sandra Verdugo sending me a text. No need to renew that I don't think. No reason to at this time, not for any more energy leeches in my life. So how did I spend my Saturday night? I made myself a nice steak for dinner. Watched the Dodgers beat the Giants in Game 2 of the NLDS. Ok ok, maybe I distracted myself long enough until it was ok to watch. Same thing with the UCLA - Arizona football game. It turned out the Dodgers won. And UCLA won. So it was a good night. That and all the bonding time with Johnnie earlier? It turned out to be a really good day.
