So I woke up this morning and I didn't know if I was supposed to go to Lisa's or not to pick up Johnnie. That's because I didn't know if she was working or not. Yeah I know it would have been easy to simply call her. But I guess I don't do that don't I? Not sure why not really, or at least it isn't anything I want to address. Anyway I figured I would do what I always do, which is to go get breakfast to take care of me, and then be up and about and maybe head on over there anyway, As it turned out, Lisa beat me to the punch. She called me. She talked about this being Saturday and all and that she knows Johnnie fully expects spending a little bit of time with me this morning. And that she wasn't working today. But... she wanted to go to Cedars-Sinai Urgent Care to get some labwork done. Yep, what's a week to go by without Lisa taking a trip to the doctor right? Her idea was that we all go together AND maybe we could even sort of hang out at Playa Vista. I agreed simply because I knew what would happen. She would go to her appointment and then Johnnie and I would end up having breakfast at Whole Foods. I think this is her way of asking me if we could have some semblance of "family time" together. I do appreciate that she does that actually, because if it were up to me, we wouldn't do it at all. And I know time together with the 3 of us is something Johnnie enjoys as well. Which is why I do it. Anyway I was already on the way and when I got there it wasn't even 8 AM yet and we needed to get there by 9 AM. And so I gave Johnnie a shower. Something I would have done anyway, except that this time I did it at Lisa's house. And then we waited for Lisa to get ready. As it was we got to Playa Vista with 5 minutes to spare and we were at the 9 AM line right on time. Since they let Lisa in immediately (unlike when Johnnie and I came at noon last week), Johnnie, myself, and the dog Claire went to Whole Foods to get breakfast. Johnnie had been whining about being so hungry already. And so we actually had a typical breakfast Johnnie and I. That means sausage and eggs and French toast for me and with a chocolate croissant for Johnnie. We had a pretty good breakfast in fact. I knew Lisa would take just about an hour to get seen and so Johnnie and I had that amount of time to kind of just hang out. It turned out to be a pretty typical Saturday for he and I, in fact. Lisa got done in just about that hour and then we headed on home. I wanted to hang out some more and get some Earl Grey at Starbucks but Lisa seemed more intent on getting home. She suggested she'd be happy to serve me Earl Grey there. And so off to her house we went. She actually made herself breakfast... some eggs and toast. And we hung out on the deck the rest of the morning. Claire the dog had an appointment at 2 PM to finally get groomed. And by noon I headed on out. I took one more detour since it was already lunch time. I went to back to Playa Vista and went to Bristol Farms to get me a nice turkey sandwich. Something about that particular sandwich from there that is different and that is my favorite. And there I found some Peach Green tea too. And so it was I got me a nice lunch and followed it up with a nice nap too. Finally, finally, I got an afternoon nap in.
So this Saturday is actually Week 1 of this year's college football season. UCLA had started on Week 0 last week actually and won big over Hawaii. But that was Hawaii. Tonight, they play vaunted LSU, who won a national title in 2019. LSU from the mighty SEC. And we're supposed to be lowly, cupcake UCLA. Who had never won a non-conference game before this year. Who had never won a season opener before this year. Who started mostly kids 3 years ago. Funny about kids though... they grow up. And I think the UCLA kids had grown based on last week and based on a couple of accomplished transfers. Me, of course do NOT watch games that matter to me most in real time. But I did take a peek... and when I did, UCLA was up 14-7 before halftime. Of course during that time, DTR got picked. And so I quickly turned the channel. And focused on the Dodgers game. Big game against the Giants too. But they were already up 5 - 1. And so I did some more of my steps, made myself some of the beef over rice and japchae for dinner and THEN I went and had a look at the UCLA score. They were up 38-27 with the ball and 3 minutes to go. Wow. They were actually on the verge of a HUGE program statement win. And a few minutes later so it was. UCLA won. Last week I didn't dare feel hopeful. UCLA had burned me many times before. For many many years. Do we forget about the NCAA record comeback against Texas A&M in 2017? I remember we were at Venice Beach that night. But this was different somehow. LSU is SEC blue blood. They hadn't had a win over an opponent like this since the Jim Mora years. And so the hope just got real. Ok then. Looks like I may have someone to root for in college football!!
