I never know how busy I'm going to be on a Wednesday, but then again wasn't last Wednesday that disastrous day at work? For which I'm having meetings with my team to mitigate and make sure those disasters don't happen again? For sure today is NOT going to be nearly as dramatic as that day. Heck I remember i went home and the dog pooped all over her puppy mat right in front of the door. I could have stepped all over that poop-fest. Not today, she seems to have recovered from what was bugging her stomach-wise. Already that is much much better. All I had to do was cover my Data Team Meeting and then later on attend what sure to be a fast Compliance Committee meeting. The Data Team Meeting was over in about 20 minutes. I just wanted to make sure James is always engaged, though whatever I assign to him, he is sure to disappear in his own sea of whatever-it-is-he thinks he's doing. And then I have to make sure Shilpa feels supported or if I were her, I'd bolt too. I think she's doing fine although I've been fairly hard on her I think, but that's because I thought she was pretty good at reverse-engineering stuff, or at least as good as Lam was. Turns out she's ok, but not as good as Lam and it's still plenty good enough to carry the department I think, with just a little infusion of help on my part. And so it was I breezed through this Wednesday morning and early afternoon and actually felt I was in control... except... there was this HCCN audit from OCHIN that was free and I had been pretty much ignoring since the beginning of the year. And then here we are in May. I really just need to put my head down and get that damn thing done once and for all. Which is what I resolved to do by tomorrow. I don't even think it's that bad really. Just tedious tedious tedious. The kind of stuff I would offload to Justin without even thinking twice about it. Now here i am stuck with the damn thing and that's ok really. It could be worse. Considering last week, I'll just take it. The good thing is that since I'm home I was able to take the dog out for a walk a couple of times today and I must say there's a certain sense of stopping to take a break that does me good simply doing that. It feels like I'm not at the office still and that's a very good thing.
Anyway it was 3 PM before I knew it and already time to pick up Johnnie once again. I stopped to watch him play with the other kids, which is what I do since I get there early enough to see him and he doesn't even know I'm there yet. So far so good and even though after this week there's only a month left of school, I'm so happy he gets to run around and play with classmates. This morning I actually got to the Party Store and picked up a kid's labcoat for him to wear for tomorrow. It's Future Day, which is to say he is supposed to dress up in what he wants to be when he grows up. I know he has gone through a few iterations, but I think the lab coat will cover doctor, scientist, paleontologist, etc. I remember that kid who wore a firefighter's outfit everyday. At least he isn't that. The thing about picking him up and leaving Claire though is that you never know what you're coming home to. Yesterday he was just sitting on his blanket quietly. He was too tonight, except that he had gotten a hold of one of Johnnie's art projects at school and chewed up some of it. Talk about the dog eating his homework! And I thought it was one of the better art works that Johnnie made. And boy he was steamed. I would have been to, and somehow it was no surprise that my lecture on not leaving stuff where Claire can get to them fell on deaf ears. Anyway tonight I walked him early and I gave her a bath early. I figured the quicker she got to dry off the better. And besides, since Johnnie was watching the movie SING for the 2nd night in a row, he was far too distracted to include himself in the bath routine. And so it went by a lot more quickly than when he's there holding the dog. With a bowl and warm water, she was actually much more comfortable and I would venture to say she even liked the warm water. And since I got done with her bath so quickly and so quietly, no need for Johnnie to take a bath tonight as well. We could do his in the morning. And the movie actually ended right about the time he was supposed to go to sleep. So the work week is halfway over and that's a good thing. We're almost halfway through May too. And the best news of all? LA is now projected to hit herd immunity by mid-July. If we're not there already that is. As of today, 5 of 8 Angelenos are immune to the virus. A long way from January when we were a hot spot in the country. Today we have one of the BEST numbers in the country. Let's go LA!!
